Neglect

Overview

Everyone deserves care, support and protection from danger, but sometimes things go wrong. Neglect is the failure to meet a child or vulnerable adult’s basic needs, and it’s a serious problem. Neglect often goes unnoticed but is actually very common. Vulnerable people can also neglect themselves, and take decisions that aren’t in their own interests. It’s really important to recognise the risks and warning signs of neglect, and help to protect people from harm. We all have a responsibility to look out for the most vulnerable people in society. Especially if you have close personal or professional contact with children or vulnerable adults, you need to be aware of the impact of neglect so you can keep people safe.

By the end of this course you'll be able to:

  • Explain the different types of neglect
  • Identify the risk factors and impacts of neglect
  • Recognise some key warning signs of neglect

Why Should I take this course?

This course is for people who want to better understand the issues surrounding neglect. If you work in a field that involves children and vulnerable adults, such as education, health, social care or policing, this is a vital issue to be aware of.
