Numeracy Level 2 - Measures
Course Overview
By the end of this lesson you will understand what compound measures are and how to recognise, calculate and convert compound measures using conversion factors.
Measurement helps describe our world using numbers. We use numbers to describe simple things like length, weight and temperature, but also complex things such as pressure, speed and brightness. An understanding of how we attach numbers to those phenomena, familiarity with common measurement units like inches, litres, and miles per hour, and a practical knowledge of measurement tools and techniques are critical for students' understanding of the world around them. In this lesson a variety of topics are covered to help learners better understand the subject of measures. Topics covered include compound measures, distance, speed, time and working with concentration.
Covering these topics will allow the learner to learn how to recognise and calculate with compound measures. Convert units of measure between systems using appropriate conversion factors. As well as, estimate measurements by reading between marked divisions on scales. Using scenarios to reiterate each topic covered provides learners with knowledge to be able to recognise, calculate and convert compound measures using conversion factors. At the end of this lesson there is a short assessment to help further reinforce the understanding and knowledge within the learner.
