Reporting and Referral

Overview
As someone who works with students, you need to respond effectively to all safeguarding incidents. If you don’t report and record them properly, this could impact the overall outcome for the student. They might not receive the support they need. The designated safeguarding lead, or DSL, has a key role to play in making safeguarding referrals. But what steps do they need to take to make sure the appropriate agencies and authorities are notified?
Once you understand how to report and record safeguarding incidents, you can make sure you contribute fully to your school’s or college’s safeguarding culture. Learning more about how the DSL makes safeguarding referrals will help you understand how the school or college needs to liaise with external agencies.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Identify how to effectively report and record safeguarding incidents, so you can make sure all students are protected from harm
- Recognise the key steps in procedures for safeguarding referrals, so you understand how the DSL must respond
