Asbestos Awareness

Overview

This level-2 e-learning course is suitable for anyone, but particularly those working in the building industry - formally or informally.

The course includes optional voiceover recorded by a professional actor. It is specifically designed to teach learners everything from the basics of what asbestos is, why and how it has been used, and who is at risk from it, to specifics such as the different types of asbestos, the health risks, and what to do if you encounter it.

This course covers key points from:

  • The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
  • The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
  • The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Course Content

  • Introduction - A look at what asbestos is, what it has been used for, why it is unsafe, who is at risk and an introduction on how to avoid it.
  • Types & Risks - The different types of asbestos, including the differences between white, blue and brown asbestos, and an overview of the health risks related to asbestos exposure.
  • Encountering Asbestos - An overview of encountering and identifying asbestos, including ACMs and the most likely places they will be found, and the difference between licenced and non-licenced work.
  • The Law - What the law says about working with asbestos, the obligations placed on those in control or ownership of buildings, and those in charge of workers who are likely to encounter asbestos.
