Neglect - Keeping Children Safe in Education

Overview

As someone who works with students, you have a key role to play in identifying neglect. Students may experience neglect in lots of different ways – from not receiving proper medical care to inadequate supervision or nutrition. This can make it difficult to spot when a young person is being neglected.

Understanding what neglect is and how young people may experience it will help you to meet your safeguarding responsibilities. Once you’re able to spot the indicators that a student might be being neglected, you’ll be empowered to report your concerns. This’ll help make sure students are protected from further harm.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Define neglect, so you can protect all students from harm
  • Identify the indicators of neglect, so you can respond appropriately to safeguard students
