Challenging Colleagues to Follow Security Rules

Course Overview

This course equips learners to challenge colleagues who aren’t complying with security rules and procedures.

The security of a retail and hospitality location depends on staff following security best practice, but over time bad habits and the pressures of work can result in patchy compliance. The best safeguard is to equip staff to challenge and motivate each other, so they can work as a team to maintain a safe environment. This course shows learners how to challenge one another in a way that is productive, supportive and non-confrontational.

By exploring a series of animated workplace environments, learners gain a new perspective on the importance of security rules, and develop the skillset to protect themselves and their colleagues by maintaining security best practice.

  • Anticipate and avoid challenge situations
  • Challenge colleagues in a supportive way
  • Stay calm in the event of a confrontation over rules
  • Use active listening to defuse a confrontation
  • Remove yourself from a conflict situation

The course takes around 10 minutes to complete, and includes a multiple-choice assessment to test learners’ understanding of the content.

This course forms part of the Security for Retail & Hospitality Staff series. Designed to improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of criminal activity, the series provides targeted security training for retail & hospitality staff. It was developed in partnership with security specialists Trisat, who have helped clients from Jaguar Land Rover to T-Mobile create more secure working environments.
