Dare to Disagree

Overview

Remember your parents telling you to be quiet and stop arguing? Definitely maybe you were arguing with a sibling about who gets to sing and who gets to play the guitar. Or perhaps if you were an only child you were arguing with yourself. After all, you had to just go let it out, right? Either way, you were told to stop and you had to roll with it. Arguments aren’t always bad, though. Do you know what I mean?

Learning how to disagree well is an important skill to have in the workplace. By understanding how to argue productively you can uncover anxieties you may be holding on to, avoid bias, open yourself up to other people’s perspectives, and gain confidence in your own viewpoints. You just need to make sure you don’t look back in anger.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify anxieties that could trigger disagreements
  • Recognise how cognitive dissonance and bias block productive debate
  • Adopt productive disagreement skills in the workplace

Why should I take this course?

Being able to disagree productively is a useful skill for everyone to learn. This course will show you how to recognise anxieties that could cause disagreements, understand how cognitive dissonance and bias shut down reasoned debate, and disagree productively in the workplace.
