Using Pronouns At Work

Course Overview

Workplaces are becoming much more sensitive to people’s gender identities, but it’s an area where there’s still work to be done. One simple step that companies can take is making sure that all colleagues know that their preferred pronouns will always be used and respected.

When people feel like they can truly be themselves at work, it improves their wellbeing and gives them the confidence to produce their best work. It helps to build a working environment where every member of the team feels valued for who they really are.

Pronouns aren’t just an issue for trans and non-binary colleagues, each one of us uses pronouns. In this course we look at the steps that every colleague can take to make the workplace more inclusive and respectful.

Firstly, we explain the importance of pronouns and why they matter. We then look at how to avoid making wrong assumptions about other people’s pronouns.

We then focus on ways to learn someone’s preferred pronouns without being intrusive and how to share your own. Finally, we look at what to do if you get someone’s pronouns wrong or if someone gets yours wrong.

This microlearning course is an animated video, with audio narration and a multiple-choice post-assessment.
