Adults with Incapacity (Scotland)

Course Overview

This eLearning course is aimed at those working in health and social care who may support or would like an understanding of mental health and incapacity and how to best support those with a mental disorder.

The course is designed to raise awareness of the definitions of mental disorder and incapacity and to enable participants to explore the impact that incapacity can have on the individual concerned, why these impacts are present and what approaches could be utilised to minimise or remove them.

The training is intended to ensure that:

Undertaking this course will give you an awareness of the importance of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and what impact they have on providing care and support for vulnerable individuals.

To provide an overview of the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 and The Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 and the implications for the service user and service provider. The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 gives clear information for supporting people who lack the capacity to make decisions. This course will illustrate the processes of decision making, capacity assessments, decisions for the benefit of the individual, and bodies who work under the Act.
