Data Protection in Education

Overview

This CPD-certified, level-2, e-learning course is suitable for anyone who works or volunteers in an education setting. The course includes optional voiceover recorded by a professional actor.

It is specifically designed for education settings to give users an understanding into what GDPR is, the roles and responsibilities, how to handle data access requests, and how to respond to data breaches.

Course Content

  • Introduction - An introduction to GDPR, categories of data, and some common terms used when talking about data protection.
  • Roles and Responsibilities - The roles of staff members within an education setting, who is responsible for what, and what duties may be involved for certain roles. This topic also cover policies and assessments a setting must have under data protection law.
  • Processing Data - The 7 key principles for collecting, processing, and storing data, and the lawful bases that must apply when doing this..
  • Sharing and Storing Data - How to safely and correctly share data, including photo policies and how to get consent. How long types of data should be stored, and how to correctly dispose of information that has reached the end of it's retention period. This topic also covers how to process data breaches.
  • Personal Data Requests - How to process Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other information rights requests.
