Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR)

Overview
Your school or trust probably has a plan to reduce its carbon footprint and become more energy efficient. But if you want a clear and detailed picture of your organisation’s carbon emissions, you’ll need to formally report on it. And if your organisation’s a big multi-academy trust, there’ll likely be mandatory legal requirements for reporting, too.
The UK government’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) policy provides you with a framework to report on energy and carbon usage. By following the SECR framework, you’ll help your school or trust adopt more efficient measures to reduce your carbon footprint. And for bigger trusts, it’ll help you stay legally compliant.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Identify what SECR is to determine if it’s mandatory or voluntary for your school or MAT
- Recognise the basics of greenhouse gas reporting and the three scopes, so you can effectively gather GHG emissions data
- Identify what information you need to disclose in your SECR and how to prepare the data, so you can complete a reporting template
Why should I take this course
This course is particularly useful for chief financial officers, accounting officers, and trustees in academy trusts. It’ll help you understand SECR and work out if following the framework is mandatory for your school or trust. You’ll also be able to gather data on greenhouse gas emissions, select the right information for disclosure, and prepare the data for your report.
