Legionnaires' Disease, often referred to as 'the invisible killer,' is a severe and potentially fatal lung infection resulting from exposure to contaminated water droplets dispersed in the air. This awareness course aims to shed light on the various aspects of Legionnaires' Disease, including its causes, symptoms, prevention, and management.
Objectives
- Distinguish what the Legionella bacterium is and how it causes Legionnaires’ disease
- Identify how and where the Legionella bacteria grow and spread
- Recognise who can contract Legionnaires’ disease and what the symptoms are
- Know how Legionnaires’ is diagnosed and treated
- Understand the legislation surrounding the management, control, and prevention of Legionella bacteria
