Early Help

Overview

When you think about safeguarding, you might immediately focus on situations where a student has already experienced significant harm. But sometimes, you can help students and their caregivers to access support that aims to prevent harm from happening in the first place. But what does this look like? And how can you recognise which students need early help?

Early help is made up of supportive services that aim to improve outcomes for students and their families and caregivers. It can improve a young person’s home life and significantly reduce the need for a referral to child protection services. Recognising when a student might benefit from early help is a key part of meeting your statutory safeguarding responsibilities.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify what early help is, so you can meet your safeguarding responsibilities
  • Recognise individuals who may benefit from early help, so you can protect all students from harm

Why should I take this course

Everyone who works with students needs to understand the role of early help in improving safeguarding outcomes for young people and their families. This course will explain what early help is. And it’ll help you to recognise when a student you work with might benefit from early help.
