Remote Working

Course Overview

A shift towards remote working has been a growing trend with many adjusting how they work to help achieve a greater work/life balance. With COVID19 requiring us all to socially distance, it’s also likely that working in a non-office environment is here to stay and digital communication will continue to be a key part of how we work together. This course focuses on the opportunities and considerations for a remote worker.

This way of working may be new and present a bit of a culture shock for some whilst for more experienced remote workers there is always more to learn. The course is therefore highly practical with tips that can immediately be put into practice to help you stay productive and get the most out of your day

Subject:

There’s no doubt that there will be different views depending on who is asked regarding the prospect of increased remote working. Some learners may have concerns including: how do we make home a productive working environment? Will our relationships suffer if we don’t see each other face to face? How can I produce my best work remotely? Learners will definitely require some guidance to adapt and get the most out of this new way of working.

There are a lot of misconceptions about remote working that we address in the course. Remote working definitely doesn’t mean working less hard or approaching what you do in an unprofessional way just because you’re not required to leave your home. We ask learners to reframe how they think about ‘work’: rather than it be a place you go to (going to work) it’s what you do, regardless of where it’s done.

So where do we start? We begin with setting up the workspace to create an environment where you can complete your best work. We think about how to stay professional, plan your time, include routines, rituals and rewards throughout the day as well as making sure you switch off at the end of each day. We then move on to how effectively communicate and collaborate with others from a remote setting.

The course is a great introduction to remote working that reflects the current challenges facing us but will also provide practical tips that will support you in the years ahead. In many of the course exercises general feedback is provided rather than binary correct/incorrect feedback: the focus is very much on finding a way of making remote working work for you so there aren’t always right or wrong choices to be made (for example in setting up your workspace or how you arrange the week ahead). Optional top tips are also sprinkled throughout the course to help you get the most out of remote working.
