Allergy Awareness
Overview
We all know someone with a food allergy, don’t we? Those ‘free from’ aisles in the supermarket are getting bigger every week. But the fact is, people aren’t just being fussy eaters. Food allergies are a real problem – one that has existed for a long time, but is only recently being properly diagnosed.
There are 14 major food allergies which can cause life-threatening reactions and frightening ailments in children and adults alike. Nowadays, allergens must be mentioned on labels or menus, but if you aren’t aware of what foods they might be in, then you, or someone you care for, could be in real danger. This course is here to help.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
- Identify the most common food allergies
- Recognise different allergen-containing foods
- Describe the different reactions associated with food allergies
- Explain what to do in the event of a severe allergic reaction
Why take this course?
Whether you have a food allergy or not, you’ll likely know someone that does. This course is essential for teachers, carers, parents, and anyone in charge of children or vulnerable adults that suffer from food allergies, too. Taking the course will help you raise awareness of allergies, prevent the risk of a reaction through cross-contamination, and put measures in place to mitigate risks.
