SACE is the South African Council for Educators and aims to enhance the status of the teaching profession through appropriate professional development.

This bundle is comprosed of two e-learning course modules:

• Teenage Pregnancy and 
• Safeguarding Awareness

Teenage Pregnancy 

This engaging course will enable you to understand the complex issue of teenage pregnancy; its causes and consequences, the current government strategies for reducing teenage conception rates and sexual risk-taking, and how the right support and access to contraceptive advice and services can make a difference. This course is for anyone who works with or has contact with teenagers, young people, and their families, including:

• Carers, parents and education staff
• Frontline health and social care staff
• Professional organisations

In this course you will learn about:

• How prevalent the problem is
• Indicators of poor outcomes
• The impact of teenage parenting on the mother and child
• Who is most at risk of becoming a teenage parent
• The importance of not stereotyping teenage parents
• What the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy 1999 is
• What other policies are relevant to teenage pregnancy since it was introduced
• Ensuring early access to appropriate multi-agency support
• Ensuring access to Sex and Relationships Education (SRE)
• Why pregnant teenagers need additional help
• What happens when they get poor service from professionals
• What teenagers want from you
• What skills you need to use
• What messages you need to convey to teenagers about sex and teenage pregnancy
• What level of confidentiality you can give teenager

Safeguarding Awareness

Many employees do not have regular contact with children or vulnerable adults, but benefit from a basic understanding of the principles of safeguarding for both of these groups. This course looks at these key principles in a short, engaging e-learning course, giving the learner confidence that they understand the basics of safeguarding required for their role.

This safeguarding awareness course is for people who might come into contact with or have occasional or indirect contact with children or vulnerable adults as part of their work.

Please note that people whose job routinely includes direct work with children or vulnerable adults should have in-depth training in safeguarding - please refer to our Level 1 and Level 2 safeguarding courses.

The course is split into four modules and will take approximately one hour to complete:  1. Recognising the signs of child abuse 2. Your role in reporting and preventing child abuse 3. Recognising the signs of adult abuse 4. Your role in reporting and preventing adult abuse

In this course you will learn:

• How to recognise the signs of adult and child abuse
• What to do if you suspect someone is being abused
• The different types of abuse
• Your role in reporting and preventing adult and child abuse
• How to minimise the risk of abuse
• How to respond to disclosed abuse
