Overview

This e-learning bundle is comprised of two course modules:

  • Information Security and
  • Keeping Good Records

Information Security

If personal information is not recorded accurately, or is lost or disclosed to unauthorised people, then the implications for that person, and for your organisation, could be very serious.

This course is for;

  • Anyone who works with or can access / view personal, confidential  and / or sensitive information
  • Anyone of works for / with an organisation
  • Anyone who works / deals with the general public

The course contains additional resource materials, useful links and a refresher guide. It will enable you to: 

  • Understand the importance of keeping data secure
  • Know what needs to be protected
  • Learn about the risks to data and data systems
  • Know the key steps to keeping data secure
  • Learn how to create a strong password
  • Learn about the ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ when communicating with other people
  • Understand what to do if you think information might be at risk

What is Information security? | What types of data and hardware are covered | Why staff, user, and company documents need protecting | The different ways (accidental and deliberate) that data can get lost, stolen, leaked, deleted or altered | Keeping your office / desk and data secure | The physical security of the building | Restricted areas | ID badges and strangers | Computer networks | Don’t take your organisation’s network security for granted | Password usage | How to create and maintain a strong password | Treat people’s data with care and respect | Do’s and don’ts of web use | Description of ‘malware’ types (virus, spyware etc.) | Spam and malicious emails | ‘Phishing’ attacks | Check before you send | Phone calls, face-to-face conversations, letters and forms | Laptops, memory sticks etc. | Guard against theft or loss | Smartphones and tablets | What to do if you think there might be a problem

Keeping good records

Keeping good records is an essential part of a structured approach to work with adults, children, young people and their families. It provides evidence of your work activity and demonstrates the practical application of your knowledge and skills.

This course is intended for anyone who works in Children's Social Care, Adults Social Care, the Health sector and the Education sector.

Note: This course can form part of an induction programme for new starters. It is also intended for all people who want to improve their knowledge and continue their professional development.
