Course Overview

Research by the NPSA (National Patient Safety Agency) shows that almost one in ten patients in UK hospitals experience harm or even death as a consequence of drug errors. Drug errors occur for a number of reasons and this programme will focus primarily on the avoidance of drug errors that occur through incorrect drug calculations. This programme is suitable for any healthcare practitioner who is involved in the administration of medicines.

Course Objective

  • Understand the need for basic arithmetical skills in drug calculations and demonstrate competency in this area.
  • Avoid drug errors by adopting a standardised approach to drug dose calculations.
  • Ultimately prevent patient injury or harm as a consequence of drug errors.
