SEND 101

Overview

You need to make sure all students have the support they need to participate and thrive in the educational environment. All the students you work with are individuals, with unique learning styles and needs. Some will also have special educational needs and disabilities – also known as SEND. How can you make sure you support these students fully in your classroom?

The SEND Code of Practice is legislative guidance that will help you support all students who have or may have SEND. Understanding the code will help you create an inclusive and supportive educational environment for everyone. And taking a graduated approach to assessing, supporting, and monitoring students with SEND will help you to meet their needs.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Explain the SEND Code of Practice and its principles, so you can adhere to the relevant legislation
  • Describe approaches for establishing an inclusive learning atmosphere, to ensure all your students have the chance to succeed
  • Explain the graduated approach to assess, support, and monitor students with SEND or suspected SEND
  • Recognise the four broad areas of need and recommended provisions aligned with the provision framework
