How to Set Coaching Goals

Overview

As a coach, you’ll help people achieve their goals. But before you can do this, you’ve got to make sure they’ve set the right kind of goal. If it isn’t meaningful, your coachee will find it hard to motivate themselves to work towards it. If it’s too vague, you’ll both struggle to figure out the steps they need to take to achieve it. And if your coachee sets a goal that’s impossible to achieve, the whole process is doomed before it begins.

Luckily, you and your coachees can avoid these and other problems by using SMARTER. It’ll help you recognise and set appropriate goals. And supporting your coachees to find their ‘Why?’ will make sure their goal is meaningful. This’ll make it easier for them to remember why they want to put the work in to achieve it.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • See the importance of the ‘Why?’ or ‘bigger picture’ before setting coaching goals
