Stoma Care

Overview

This course aims to provide domiciliary and community carers with the information they need to support service users who have a stoma that requires ongoing care, or assistance to those who are newly experiencing a stoma.

Objectives

This training will enable learners to:

• Explain what a stoma is and identify the different types there are.
• Identify healthy and unhealthy stomas.
• Recognise your duty of care.
• Describe how to fit, empty and remove stoma bags.
• Follow steps to prevent and control infection.
